Life-Changing Days & Times

As we enter a Friday, which happens to be a “good” one in the life of a believer, you can rest assured that you most likely have been in-grained with some inconsistencies about God’s desire(s) for you.  I find that in speaking to friends all over the world, that we ALL have a tainted view of God therefore resulting in a tainted view throughout life.

Here’s what I mean:  If you look at God the wrong way, you look at events, change, tragedy, downturns, fiascos, rough times, and bad news the wrong way.  So, we must change the way we see God and the way we understand that He sees us.

The ONLY thing we are defined by is this weekends celebrated event:  The CROSS and The RESURRECTION!  That means that since Jesus Christ died for you, He loves you forever, regardless, unconditionally, and NOTHING can change that. And, since one of our greatest needs in this life is to be accepted, then mark it down, YOU are accepted by the most lovable and lovingly-perfected person in all the universe- Jesus Christ, REGARDLESS.  You don’t have to earn that because you can’t!

I read a statement recently that said, “Your circumstances may change you, but they don’t have to reduce you.”  YES! Don’t let them.  You are still the same person, striving to be in God’s will, striving to do great things, striving to take care of your family, striving to do it right, striving to get back up after you fall, and, IF, you follow Christ as your Savior, you are going to spend forever in eternity with HIM.

The resurrection (the fact that HE raised Himself from the dead after 3 days) proves His strength, His love for you, and His ability to move in any situation you are experiencing right now.  Here’s our main challenge:  We don’t really believe He exists; we do, but we don’t.  To most He’s a mental crutch.  But when you walk and talk with Him as if He is a friend, things change.

One of two people are reading this today:

1.  If you don’t follow Christ as leader and forgiver of your life-  Then, go to church somewhere that will lead you to Him this weekend.  Begin a fresh new life, THIS weekend- new thought-life, new direction, move somewhere, change jobs, and renew your commitment to your family and start over.

2.  If you do follow Christ as leader and forgiver of your life- As you worship the risen Lord this weekend, begin again, start-over with new thoughts, new relationships, new directions, new energy, etc. etc. etc.  Go make some changes and leave Sunday a different person.  ”Joy really does come in the morning” every morning because it indicates that you woke up and found yourself alive which means God still has a plan for YOU!

It’s a NEW day for me!!!  I’ve decided!!!!

Love this from Tommy Tenney…….be encouraged in your journey!

You create “good” emptiness in your life by sowing what you have into the promises of God.  When you do that, you are living between “the already promised” and the “not yet delivered.” You are “banking” on the faithfulness and compassion of God, who always responds to human emptiness with divine fullness. People who aren’t really hungry for God, especially those who enter His presence fresh from the bless-me church smorgasbord, tend to sample a little here and snack a little there with extended visiting of other churches. They appear to be looking for “just the right feeling” or “just the right song” to get in the mood for communion with God. God is looking for really hungry people. He hopes to find them in the Church, but if necessary He will bypass an entire temple filled with dainty casual nibblers just to find a few really hungry people on the street, in a bar, or on the wrong side of town.

My high school friend, Tom Martin, just recently received news that he has a rare form of cancer called, Merkel Cell cancer. His attitude is hugely inspiring…..listen to this song he put on his blog.  You can keep up with his journey here.

6 Degrees

Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the “Human Web”) refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth. -wikipedia

This explains how close we all are to getting to the place of our dream……a few right connections and contacts can result in reducing these steps and put you on the pathway to achieving what you desire.  Persevere!!!

Carpe Diem

Carpe diem is a phrase from a Latin poem by Horace.  It is popularly translated as “seize the day.” Carpe means “pick, pluck, pluck off, gather,” but Horace uses the word to mean “enjoy, make use of.”  Kind of goes right in line with that text of scripture, “Eat, drink, and by merry, for tomorrow we die.” One day at a time, for God’s purpose in your life equals a life of success!

The Mind

It plays funny games with us.  It can think right or it can think wrong.  It can have your body in a funk, or it can have your body thrilled.   So weird, huh?  I’ve concluded that we have full authority with what it gets stuck on.  In other words, it’s a mental discipline to camp out in despair, or like driving a car, you push the accelerator and move on.  It doesn’t just go away or come naturally. Everybody is different:

  1. Some are happy go-lucky kinds of people who are consistently fine with just about everyday.
  2. Others struggle with ups and downs who have to work hard at keeping the right mindset.
  3. Another group must have medical help to master the chemical makeup of their genetics.

Whatever we are, we need help from God himself.  For me, I fit the #2 description.  Kim fits the #1 description.  We all need each other to make it in this life, thus, the joy of a church where you can come like you are.  If you find yourself in a funk, get busy, get involved at church, and meet somebody else’s need.  It’s worked for me.

Seasons

I’ve noticed over a lot of years of living that it matters who we are around, in more ways than one.  God has seasons for us and as we recognize those for what they are, we embrace life in a more contented way.  NOTHING is forever, therefore, there is always so much hope for what is next!

Here’s an important part of that journey:  Depending on where you are on the season-journey, you cannot afford to be around certain individuals.

  • If you are living in a sacrificial season, it will be hard on your mental psyche to be around a person who is in a more secure season.
  • If you are in a broken season, it will be hard on your mental psyche to be around a person that has never been through much brokenness.
  • If you are in a silent season, it will be hard on your mental psyche to be around a person that is hearing from God very actively.
  • If you are in a very productive season, it will be hard on your mental psyche to be around a person that is going through hell.

It’s certainly beneficial to be around people that are not necessarily in your season, and you should because they can encourage you, but the challenge will be with YOU, in that if you are not careful, the very mentality that you have worked hard at adopting for your particular season, could be washed away with envy, jealousy, and depression, wishing you were somewhere else or looking upon your season as a lesser position in God’s eyes.

ALL seasons of your life are big, huge, and important in your spiritual journey!  Embrace where you are, be proud for where you are (broke or rich), and realize that there is level ground for all people around the cross of Jesus Christ.

Seasons are funny things.  God may be speaking or He may be having us just sit back and wait.  It’s hard for any of us to wait…especially when we want God to use us and we believe He has something big in store, however, what if God has used us in the mightiest way ALREADY?  Are we o.k. with that?  It should be fine if that is so!  He will always use us, but in different degrees.  If our focus is on the magnitude of use rather than the moldability of the use, we will be disappointed at certain stages of life.  God NEVER stops using us, IF, we are available!  His choice of scale never deifies His love for us!

John and I have been friends since ’92………been on the preacher journey together, to a lot of places, and through a lot of terrain. Heard a message he preached recently that speaks to so many people, either now, or at one time or another in our lives.  He said he got to a place in his ministry at one time where he prayed, “God, I’m asking you to help me, want, to want, to be here.” That applies to anyone.  Whether it’s a job, a tough family situation, a challenging ministry, or just that you have other dreams and it’s hard to wait on them.  Sometimes, you just have to pause, and ask God to literally change your desires to match His.  That’s what the verse means, anyway.  The verse of scripture, “God will give you desires of your heart” doesn’t mean whatever YOU want, but when your wants match up with HIS, He will give you the desires of your heart, and sometimes He has to change our wants.
