Anthem Church Friends

Posted: June 30, 2008 in Church Planting

We had the most meaningful day yesterday at Anthem Church, Gainesville, FL.  These people are dear, dear friends.  They commissioned us, honored us, blessed us, announced their partnership with Origin Church, and our good friends, Wayne and Vernest LeGree, cranked out some fabulous barbecue, as only they can do!  Thank you Chad, Vernest, Wayne, and the entire Anthem team who took out a lot of time, energy, and effort to do this for us.  We’re humbled!  Love to you all!  Look forward to great days, together, ahead!  Anthem launch, October, 2008!!

New Myspace Page

Welcome to our brand new Origin Church myspace page.  Kudos to my oldest daughter, Melonie, for using her creativity to design a great page!  Click on the box above to take a quick tour, or you can click right here.  We really believe this can be a great networking opportunity to communicate with those in NW Georgia and Chattanooga to share the launching of a new church.

Stewardship Opportunity

Posted: June 28, 2008 in Giving

Our Partners now have the option to give electronically here at Origin, through e-give.  This is for your convenience and you can set up your tithe, offering, monthly partnership, or special gift either weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or whatever you choose.  It is stewardship made easy!  It has the highest level of security.  Any account can be used that has a routing and transit number and account number in the United States-Checking, savings, NOW, SuperNOW, and some brokerage accounts are eligible for giving.  Credit cards are not accepted by e-give, but you can use our Origin Church paypal account if you would like to give by credit card.

Church Planting Ben Arment

Posted: June 28, 2008 in Church Planting

Loved Ben Arment and Gary Lamb’s comments yesterday regarding planting a church.  You must read!  I’ll give you something else along that line.  I heard Mark Driscoll say, “What I do in Seattle would not work in Dallas because I don’t have any history with anybody in Dallas.  I believe you have to have some history with the people you are trying to reach.”  A light came on that day for me.

I picked my place to plant back in 2000 and it didn’t work.  What Gary said about “thinking you fit a place”  vs. “being in the place you actually fit”  is a tough reality.  We’ve all been there.

One last thought about successful planting in my mind: You must decide mentally before you go: That you are there for life, you will work a bi-vocational position somewhere else if need be, no obstacle is going to take you down, and change your definition of success.  Success is determined by a larger than life creator!  Develop the “who” in you and He will develop the “what.”  Life, church planting, and productive work takes simple moxie and tough-minded hutzpah.  Let’s go get it done!

Just Saw This

Posted: June 26, 2008 in Church Growth
  • 1990-  52 million people attended church
  • 2006- 52 million people attended church
  • 1990-2006- The United  States grew by 52 million people.

Conclusion:  Stagnant church attendance while the population continues to grow.

49 out of 50 states are declining in the percentage of their population that attend church.  The only one that is growing is Hawaii.  In 2010, only 16.5% of the population will attend church…..UNLESS.

Thinking

Posted: June 25, 2008 in Thoughts

We’ve got a lot going on as we get ready to move from a development phase of our church plant to a launch team phase.  Let me just throw out what I’m thinking:

  • Transition- I’ve never enjoyed it
  • Packing
  • Working on Systems for Origin- never ending
  • Feel like I need to be working 24/7
  • Exhausted
  • Tons to do
  • Where will all the funding come from?
  • Where will we get a launch team?
  • What about staffing?
  • Will miss Gainesville friends
  • Looking forward to being closer to family
  • Economy is terrible
  • Fired up about all that is falling into place
  • Got an amazing band ready to go
  • Got venue #2 in a nearby city to Ringgold almost secured-  a cool, cool place!
  • I’ve seen what phase 3 of our church will look like- can’t wait
  • Adding new partners to Origin Church everyday
  • Most churches want nothing to do with church-planting
  • Pete is creating all of our portable environments-  an amazing innovator!
  • Got some new partnerships in development
  • Brand new school for the kids
  • Uncertainty
  • Sad, glad all in one emotion
  • How, when, where?
  • Excited
  • Loving what I see our church becoming
  • We need some family time
  • Keep adding value to people’s lives
  • Thank you power is in force
  • Always look for the good things
  • One day at a time- a little bit of faith/whole lot of patience
  • God is able!

World Missions

Posted: June 20, 2008 in Missions

At Origin Church, the “win” for us is defined as a changed-life.  Part of our DNA will be affecting lives through world missions.  We want to begin this from the get-go, even in our infancy stage as a church plant, and set the tone early for generosity.  Today, we announce two opportunities for you to make an impact and change a life of someone less fortunate than yourself.

1.  The Thomas Factor-  We ask you to consider helping change India for Christ through a church-plant mission.  Our church can open a thriving church in India for $7,000.  Feel free to give online or by check and designate “India.”

2.  World-Vision Children-  For every $30 given each month, you can personally sponsor a child.  As a child sponsor,  you are connected with one special child who will know your name, write to you and feel your tender love and prayers. Your child sponsorship monthly pledge of $30 will provide a child with things such as clean water, nutritious food, health care, educational opportunities, and spiritual nurturing.  Once again, feel free to give online or by check and designate “World Vision.”  We will take care of setting up the details for you and we will send you all the pertinent information.

A Lot Going

Posted: June 20, 2008 in Faith

As we transition from the development phase of our church planting mission, to the launch team building phase, we have so many emotions going on.  There are so many facets of this quest that are unknown to us, but known to God.  I continue to have strong belief that we all must continue to train our minds “to be Godly.”  Paul said, “to have the mind of Christ.”  That doesn’t just happen.  I’m learning that it’s a discipline that must be worked out just like our physical bodies.  There is always more to be thankful for than we recognize.  “God, show us.”
